In Classrooms and Offices, FSorb Acoustic Panels Excel

In the best classrooms and office spaces, people can focus more of their attention on what they’re doing. They can solve more problems. They can feel calmer while working.

Which begs the question: How do you build these healthier spaces? How do you keep indoor environments healthy, even as buildings age?

Since 2009, our FSorb acoustic wall and ceiling panels have been helping designers, office managers, and school administrators who want to create more productive workspaces answer these questions.

FSorb helps shape the indoor sonic atmosphere, enhancing mental health and focus without introducing health hazards like volatile organic compounds into the air.

How FSorb Panels Can Enhance Mental Health

Our human brains can’t ignore sounds. We’re hard-wired to respond and find out whether sounds represent trouble.

Because of this natural tendency, conversations from neighboring rooms or echo-prone hallways, background noise from HVAC equipment, and other everyday sounds compete for our attention throughout the day, even when we’re not consciously aware of the sounds. This competition for our attention grows more fierce in rooms with unconditioned noise levels — rooms without proper acoustic panel installations.

Places Where Focus Matters Need Sound Panels

Research has shown that trying to maintain focus amidst uncontrolled sound tends to:

  • Increase stress levels

  • Reduce our concentration

  • Make conversations harder to follow

  • Lower workplace productivity

  • Interrupt learning

  • Slow information retention

Classrooms, offices, and conference rooms are particularly vulnerable to these negative sonic effects. Students who can’t hear their teachers’ voices or the sounds coming from a video tend to fall behind on their work. Likewise, employees who don’t fully understand a project are more likely to deliver inadequate results. Everyday challenges like language barriers or noise-prone environments further exacerbate the lack of proper sound conditioning in a space.

Research makes it clear: Acoustic panels can improve the experience for students, employees, and others who visit a classroom or office space.

FSorb Protects Healthy Indoor Air by Reducing VOCs

FSorb panels allow frequencies we want to hear while minimizing distracting noise. Truth be told, many types of professional sound panels, when installed properly, can do this.

What sets FSorb apart is its ability to accomplish something very few other panels can achieve: FSorb shapes sound while also protecting indoor air quality. This is especially important for those who have sensitivities to allergens.

Most sound panels on the market pull together a variety of materials, including a hardened edge, sawdust or fiberglass filler, external fabrics, and plastic coatings. To hold panels together, manufacturers of these kinds of sound panels use adhesives.

Adhesives and coatings exude volatile organic compounds, or VOCs, which are dangerous to breathe. As time passes, the prevalence of VOCs tends to increase because traditional panels off-gas more VOCs as they age, increasing the concentration of these particles in closed spaces.

The textile and filler materials used in traditional sound panels can also collect dust and become breeding grounds for mold and bacteria, especially in humid climates.

How Can a Sound Panel Protect Indoor Air Quality?

FSorb Acoustic Products use only one material: 100% polyester fiber with 65-81% post-consumer recycled polyester derived from PET plastic pellets. We use the kind of plastic that’s used to make clear water bottles.

This material releases no VOCs, and since we don’t need adhesives, fillers, substructures, or sealants, we don’t introduce new VOC-emitting materials into our manufacturing process. Instead, we use a proprietary blend of plastic fibers that melt at different temperatures, creating a natural bonding. This bonding is literally baked into the process of making FSorb panels.

Much like lumber or copper piping, FSorb won’t come apart unless it’s cut apart. FSorb’s one material looks the same inside and out.

With FSorb, there’s no fabric to sag or attract mold, and no allergens to leech into the air of classrooms and offices. So, along with creating more acoustical clarity, FSorb panels help create indoor atmospheres with healthier air to breathe.

FSorb continues to perform at this level throughout its lifespan, which is typically measured in decades. You won’t have to take our word for it. FSorb has achieved the UL GREENGUARD certification, a globally recognized third-party certification program that verifies products and materials have low chemical emissions, helping reduce indoor air pollution and chemical exposure.

Healthier Materials Come from a Smarter Design

The simplest building products are often the healthiest building products, but simplicity doesn’t happen by accident. Simplicity happens because of deliberate design and hard work.

FSorb’s founder, Doug Bixel, started FSorb to provide simple, safe, and effective sound absorption systems to the building industry. Doug was a builder before he started FSorb, so he already understood the challenges builders deal with every day.

The same holds true for the health effects of FSorb panels. Since our products don’t emit VOCs or breed mold or bacteria, they can help keep classrooms and office spaces safer and healthier for everyone who spends time there.

In the Healthiest Spaces, People Can Thrive

Healthy buildings require more than proper ventilation systems and building code compliance. Health includes having a space to think clearly, communicate easily, and feel comfortable throughout the day.

By reducing unwanted noise while emitting no VOCs and minimizing allergens, FSorb acoustic panels help create classrooms where students can focus, offices where employees can contribute, and public spaces where making connections becomes easier.

The combination of acoustic performance, attractive aesthetics, healthy materials, and simplified installation makes FSorb ideal for organizations seeking to create spaces where people feel comfortable and can perform at their highest level.
